Rotary Supports Clean Water, Healthcare and Food Security

The Derby-Shelton Rotary club was a significant participant in this global grant, which was a labor of love.  This grant provides clean water, access to healthcare and food security to the people of Ntalabany,  Kenya and surrounding communities.  Ntalabany is an extremely remote village in the central highlands of Kenya.  The nearest clinic is a six-hour walk.  The cooperating organization, Kenyan Health Care Initiatives, constructed a new clinic in the village but needed assistance with making it operational.  This grant provides capital equipment, solar electricity and refrigeration, nurses’ quarters, water tank and pipeline with fiber filters and a predator-proof fence so the clinic can be operational.  Because of the lack of fertile soil, the grant also provides a Greenhouse to enrich the diet of the villagers.  The intent is a reduction in neonatal and maternal mortality, improved vaccination of children in the community of Ntalabany, improved overall health and disease control and access to clean water and nutritious food.

This project is a collaboration between District 7980, The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International, Rotary Club of North Branford (lead partner), Nkubu Rotary Club, Kenyan Health Care Initiatives and the Laikipia County Health Dept.
