One of Derby-Shelton Rotary Club’s favorite projects is to enhance the education of third graders in all the elementary schools in Derby and Shelton by giving students their very own copies of a paperback student’s dictionary. Rotarians normally deliver the books and talk to the students about the importance of dictionaries and show them how to use them. Students are also told about the community work being done by Rotary clubs all over the world. However, this year restrictions due to COVID precautions have prevented Rotarians from visiting the classrooms. However, the dictionaries were still delivered to each of the schools and teachers will make the presentations on behalf of the Club.
This year, 408 dictionaries were distributed in Derby and Shelton. Kim Ryan Caro, who has coordinated the program for years now is shown delivering dictionaries to Bradley School in Derby.
