In 2022, the Derby-Shelton Rotary Club held the first Flags for Heroes event at Veterans Memorial Parkin Shelton. The brainchild of former President Linda Homes-Hannon who first saw the event being held in another community and brought the event to the attention of the Club. The event is meant to honor Heroes from all walks of life and involves placing commemorative flags with the names of the Heroes where the event is held. In 2022, that was just the Veterans Memorial Park in Shelton. In 2023, the event expanded to include Derby’s historically significant Birmingham Green.
