There was a time when public works departments delivered fifty-gallon drums os a sand/salt mixture to street corners around the community for use by citizens throughout the winter. Those days are long gone, but Derby-Shelton Rotarians have brought their own version for seniors in Derby and Shelton. Each year, right after Thanksgiving Rotarians follow their weekly meeting with a very special afternoon. They head over to the DPW yard in Shelton and then spend an afternoon filling buckets with the sand/salt mixture and then delivering them to seniors in Derby and Shelton who have requested them for their use. This year that means 104 seniors have their mixture to keep their porches, stairs and sidewalks a bit safer.
