Rotary Interact is set up for students aged 12-18.
The purpose of Interact is the following:
- Develop Leadership skills and personal integrity
- Demonstrate Helpfulness and Respect for others
- Understanding the Value of Individual Responsibility and Hard Work
- Advancing international understanding and good will
The Rotary Interact Club was originally started several years ago at Shelton High School where it was run by a teacher in cooperation with our club. There was also an Interact Club at Derby High School for a short time. Upon the teacher’s retirement the Interact Club began to have less and less kids so under the leadership of Bill Miller,( when he was president of Rotary ) our club set up a new interact club at the Lower Naugatuck Valley Boys & Girls Club about 4 years ago.
The advisor to the Interact Club is Jen Deleon. She is the Unit Director for the Shelton club. We have averaged 8-9 students per year in the Interact Club. The members have participated and supported our Rotary Club at several events. They have also done one to two projects every year within the community. In both the Fall and Spring we have sent two interact members to RYLA for the weekend where they meet other Interact students from throughout the state.
RYLA is set up and organized by our Rotary District. At RYLA our Interact members discuss leadership skills and learn to use those skills. Our club pays for each student who attends. Every interact member who has attended has come to our club very impressed and thankful they attended.
