Derby-Shelton Rotary has selected Patrick Carey as the Club’s 2025 Norman K Parsells Awardee. He will be honored with winners from other area clubs at a luncheon on Friday, April 25th at the Milford Yacht Club.
Pat has been a member of Derby-Shelton Rotary since 1989. He is a Real Estate Broker and Co-Owner of Carey & Guarrera Real Estate in Shelton.
In the 1990s he served as Program Chairman for three years and received the Derby-Shelton Club Service Award in 1994. In 1995 the World Special Olympics were held in New Haven. Shelton was chosen as a Host Town for the Iceland Team. Pat served as Rotary Host Chairman and worked to find the Icelandic team homes to stay in during the Olympics. The 1995 Olympics finale took place in a sold-out Yale Bowl and was attended by then-President Bill Clinton.
Pat received the Derby-Shelton Rotary Outstanding Leadership Award 1994-1995. Over the years he has served on the Rotary Scholarship Committee, Rotary Board of Directors and as Vice President. He also received the distinguished Paul Harris Fellow Award. Other club activities such as Shelton Day, delivering Sand to seniors and reading in local schools have all been part of Pat’s Rotary Life.
Joining Rotary led to more community involvement in Valley where he served on various Boards and as President of the Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors and presently serves as the President of the Hewitt Foundation.
Pat says, “The Four Way Test has served as a guide throughout my personal and business life.” Pat attributes his Rotary and Community involvement to the incredible support on his wife Dee who passed away in 2024. They have two children and four grandchildren. We thank Pat for his active participation and embodying Rotary’s mission of “service beyond self”.
The Norman K. Parsells Award, is presented annually to honor the memory and spirit of Norm Parsells. He was a dedicated Rotarian who served his community and Rotary, demonstrating Rotary’s ideal of “Service Above Self”. This year’s recipients of the Award will be recognized as Rotarians who personify the same spirit and dedication to their community and Rotary that Norm represented during his lifetime. Clubs in Areas 4 and 5 participate. (Bridgeport, Fairfield, Trumbull, Monroe, Stratford, Milford, Devon, Orange and Derby-Shelton).
