STUDENTS Compete in rotary Speech Contest

SHELTON STUDENT REACHES DISTRICT FINALS


Shelton High School student Michael Quartuccio did the Derby/Shelton Rotary club proud as he swept the District 7980 4-Way Test Speaking Contest title at the annual District Conference which was held in Albany from May 2-5. Michael had previously won Michael the local contest before qualifying for the District finals at a regional competition held in Wallingford on Sunday, April 21. Our congratulations to Michael on his tremendous achievement!

Three students attended the April 11, 2002 Rotary Club meeting to compete in the Four Way Test Speech Contest.  They were (l-r) Michael Quartuccio from Shelton High School, James Tichey from Shelton High School, Amanda Bailey from Derby High School, and .  Jim spoke on the topic of stereotyping people, Amanda on the First Ammendment right of free speech, and Micheal on HMOs.

Rotary President Bill Ostrum congratulates Michael Quartuccio of Shelton High School for coming in first in the contest. Michael received a $200 check and will represent the club at the Rotary District 7980 "Speak Off" on April 21.  If he becomes on the the three finalists from the district the club will send him and his parents to the District Conference in Albany, NY in May.
