Derby/Shelton Rotary Club

Grants Awarded During 1999

The Board of Directors of the Derby/Shelton Rotary Club voted nearly $16,000 in grants to support worthwhile programming in the two towns during 1999. Then President Jeff Merrill noted that this was the most funding that the Club had ever done and it was a tribute to the civic spirit of the entire club. He said, “Our Rotary Club has made a significant investment in the community both in terms of the dollars committed as well as with the numerous hands-on projects that we have undertaken during the last year.”

In addition to the $5,000 in scholarships announced previous, the Club made grants to the following groups:

Boys & Girls Club $5,000

Boy Scouts (Learning for Life) $1,000

Junior Achievement $750

International Project $800

Area Congregations Together $1,000

Umbrella $1,000

Lafayette School $200

Challenger Division, Shelton Little League $500

Valley United Way $500

After the original announcement, Merrill announced an additional $250 grant to support the Valley's All America City effort.
