Connecticut Loves to Read - and so does Rotary!

And that Civil War Lieutenant-colonel showed up again!!

Students in schools throughout Derby and Shelton got a break from their studies for visits from members of the Derby/Shelton Rotary Club who were visiting to promote reading skills as part of the Connecticut Loves to Read program. Rotarians were out in force as they visited Elizabeth Shelton, Booth Hill, Mohegan, St. Joseph, Sunnyside, Lafayette, Long Hill and St. Lawrence Schools in Shelton and Irving and St. Mary/St. Michael in Derby. Each Rotarian read a book specially selected for the grade level of the students, and then left the book behind as a gift from the Derby/Shelton Rotary Club. It's difficult to say who had more fun - the students or the Rotarians!

We want to thank Steve McEwen for coordinating the event and to the following Rotarians for taking time from their schedules to make the visits:

Earlier in the school year, the Club had distributed new dictionaries to every third grader in the two towns, and that is another annual project of the Derby/Shelton Rotary Club that supports education in Derby and Shelton.

President Pat, Lisa Curley and Linda Hannon are shown with Bradley School Principal Linda Coppola holding the new dictionaries presented to all the third graders.
